Established over 30 years ago, A Slater & Son originally traded as a sole-trader business before incorporating as A Slater & Son Property Services Ltd in March 2025. The incorporation date does not represent the start of trading. Over those three decades the work has been property repairs and maintenance - joinery, building work, plastering, damp and general property care across Middlesbrough and Teesside. Our dedicated locksmith service was added more recently, following formal locksmith training, and provides emergency lockouts, lock replacement and door-security work across Middlesbrough and the North East. Today we're a family-run limited company covering the full range of property work - but the phone is still answered, and the work is still done by the people on the van.
We help homeowners, landlords, letting agents and small businesses. We specialise in the bits of property work that most people dread sorting - emergency lock-outs, damp problems, leaking roofs, failed plaster, tired bathrooms - and turn them into one calm phone call and one clean invoice.

Awards & qualifications
Northern Housing Awards 2025 — SME of the Year. Gary Slater personally holds the GMLUK Level 3 Award in Locksmithing (Guild of Master Locksmiths UK, LTTA certified - 21-week course) and is a Guild of Master Locksmiths UK Member, covering our locksmith service. Separately, the company holds CHAS Elite and SafeContractor accreditations for its building and property maintenance work; those schemes do not certify locksmithing. The company is also Gas Safe registered (registration 587389) for gas work. You can view Gary's GMLUK Level 3 locksmith award and our CHAS Elite, SafeContractor and Gas Safe certificates.

Written quotes for planned work, and emergency call-outs are a fixed price agreed on the phone. Labour and any parts are confirmed before work begins wherever possible; out-of-hours rates apply.
Stand behind it
12-month workmanship guarantee on every job — if anything works loose, drips or needs adjusting within 12 months, we return and fix it free of charge.
